Morbidity Changes in Hospital Admitted Patients in Korea


Abstract
From the national survey data on the numbers and diagnosis of the patients who visited medical facilities during June 1990, distributions of diseases, after coded according to the ICD main classifi cation, were computed for inpatients and outpatients respectively. These distributions were exam ined with frequencies by diseases and were compared between different types of patients with dissimilarity index.
The distributions based on the outpatients¢¥ diseases showed that patterns were mainly resulted from the diseases of diagnostic oriented patients, and the distributions of the inpatients were com posed of mainly the treatment oriented patients¢¥ diseases.
The frequent diseases for outpatients were diseases of respiratory system, diseases of digestive system, injuries, poisonings of toxic effects and of the external causes. For the inpatients, frequent diseases treated were injuries and toxic poisonings, delivery and other obstetric diseases, diseases of digestive system, diseases of respiratory system, and infectious and parasistic diseases.
Diseases like neoplasms and diseases of pulmonary circulation and other forms of heart disesases that were the main causes of death in Korea recently were increased in numbers, specially for the inpatients and aged patients.
